Trump asked Zelenskyy why Ukraine is not hitting Moscow - WP
During a recent conversation with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US President Donald Trump asked why the Armed Forces of Ukraine have not yet struck Moscow.
This was reported by The Washington Post's deputy editor-in-chief David Ignatius in his column, citing his own sources in the White House.
According to the journalist, the Ukrainian President replied that such a strike is possible only if there is appropriate weapons. "We can [strike Moscow] if you give us weapons," Ignatius quoted Zelenskyy.
In response, Trump allegedly said that Ukraine should put pressure not only on Moscow, but also on St. Petersburg. According to the columnist, the current ATACMS missiles that Ukraine already has are not capable of reaching such distant targets. In this regard, according to sources, Trump considered the idea of transferring Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 2,500 km. This type of US weapons was recently used during strikes on Iran. At the same time, a decision on their transfer to Kyiv has not yet been made.
Ignatius also outlined three motives that, in his assessment, prompted Trump to change his tone in communication with the Kremlin: a sense of contempt on the part of putin, confidence in the power of American aviation and missile weapons after operations against Iran, as well as the belief that the Kremlin leader will negotiate only in case of forceful pressure.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, seventeen MIM-104 Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems are being prepared for shipment to Ukraine. Some of them will be delivered in the coming days.
At the same time, Trump said that he was dissatisfied with the behavior of the aggressor country of russia and was ready to introduce tough economic measures if an agreement to end the war in Ukraine is not reached within 50 days.
At the same time, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that for the administration of President Donald Trump, the main task is to achieve peace through diplomatic efforts.
And the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, said that US President Donald Trump should have given russian dictator vladimir putin a shorter deadline to cease fire and start negotiations with Ukraine.
