Estonia to veto 18th package of EU sanctions against russia. Country's Foreign Minister gives reason

Estonia may block introduction of 18th package of European Union sanctions against the aggressor country russia if the bloc's countries decide to exclude a reduction in the price ceiling for russian oil.

The corresponding statement was made by Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, his words are quoted by ERR.

"We take a very clear position that a reduction in oil prices should be included in this package. We have a very firm position on this issue," Tsakhna said.

According to him, the new package of European sanctions should include a reduction in the price ceiling for oil from russia from USD 60 to USD 45 per barrel.

According to media reports, Mediterranean countries with a large shipping sector of the economy are against this item in the package of sanctions.

Tsakhna added that Estonia's position is to adopt the sanctions package proposed by the European Commission in its original form.

He recalled that the current price limit of USD 60 has been in effect for two years and has not been lowered because major Western countries did not support such a step.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on July 9, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys called on the EU to immediately adopt a new sanctions package against the backdrop of the russian federation's large-scale air attack on Ukraine.

And the day before, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said that the EU was preparing a package of "the toughest sanctions" against russia.
