Ukraine expects that after war, EU will allocate EUR 25 billion annually for maintenance of Ukrainian army – Shmyhal

Ukraine expects that after the war, the European Union will allocate EUR 25 billion annually for the maintenance of the Ukrainian army. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal reported this on the Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"We offer our European partners to invest in European defense through co-financing of the Ukrainian army. Military spending currently amounts to USD 100-120 billion. In peacetime and excluding weapons production, the maintenance of the Ukrainian army will cost EUR 50 billion per year. We expect that half of this amount will be provided by the EU," he noted.

Shmyhal noted this during an online speech at a meeting of the Ukraine Donor Platform in the ministerial level within the framework of the Ukraine Reconstruction Conference in Rome (URC-2025).

He reported that during the meeting of the donor platform, they discussed attracting financial support for 2026 and 2027, taking into account various scenarios.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Shmyhal said that the reconstruction and modernization of Ukraine, according to government estimates, will cost USD 1 trillion over 14 years.
