In UK, postal workers were wrongly accused of theft for years - 13 people committed suicide

In the UK, at least 13 post office workers committed suicide due to errors in the Horizon computer system, and another 59 admitted to thinking about suicide.

This is stated in the report by Sir Wyn Williams, published on July 8, The Sun writes.

Between 1999 and 2015, approximately 1,000 people were wrongly accused of theft, fraud and falsification of financial statements. The cause was a failure in the Fujitsu software used in the Horizon postal system. The victims massively lost their jobs, families, health and even lives.

The investigation found that both the Post Office and the developers of the program knew about potential errors in the system, but ignored these risks. "In practice, the Post Office has been perpetuating the myth of infallibility for many years," Sir Wyn said.

The consequences have included a wave of mental health problems, bankruptcies, divorces and even violence. The victims and their families have been officially recognised as victims of "unacceptable behaviour", with around 10,000 people being entitled to compensation.

The scandal gained wide publicity following the release of the ITV drama series Mr Bates vs The Post Office, which told the story of former Postmaster General Alan Bates, the founder of the Justice Movement.

In his report, Sir Wyn criticised the Post Office's "hostile attitude" to compensation proposals and said that the investigators had treated assistant Postmasters harshly and humiliatingly.

The Post Office has issued a public apology: "We apologise unreservedly for the suffering caused to our staff. This is a shameful period in our history."

The second part of the report, which will identify the culprits, is expected to be published later.

As a reminder, Ukrposhta Joint Stock Company and the US Postal Service signed an agreement that had been in the works for over two years they agreed to open four airports for delivery in the near future (Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, and New York) to make delivery to the US even faster.
