Department of State assures: US has not stopped all arms supplies to Ukraine
US Department of State spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said that the Pentagon's earlier decision concerns only an individual case and does not mean a complete cessation of military supplies to Ukraine.
She said this on July 2 during a briefing.
When asked by reporters whether the suspension of arms supplies would weaken Ukraine's position during negotiations with russia, Bruce replied: "That's a very good question, but it's good that it won't be a factor. We have not stopped all arms supplies to Ukraine. This is one aspect, one situation, one event that has changed."
She emphasized that the US has many other options for supporting Ukraine: "There are many credible options and efforts to arm Ukraine. And President Donald Trump has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to Patriot missile supplies."
Bruce urged not to draw too broad conclusions from this decision: "This does not mean the cessation of our aid. We will discuss what happens next. The Pentagon statement clearly states that they have reliable options. We continue to work to ensure that Ukraine has everything it needs."
She also added: "We must carefully assess the nature of what happened, given our unwavering support for Ukraine."
According to Politico, the Pentagon's decision to suspend some weapons supplies came as a surprise even to many informed people in the United States, including congressmen and diplomats. The WSJ specified that this concerns weapons that are already in warehouses in Poland.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine is already clarifying the details of the situation with the American side at a working level.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on July 2, White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said in a comment to NBC News that the United States had decided to stop supplying some weapons to Ukraine.
On July 2, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine stated that there had been no official notifications from the United States about the suspension or revision of the schedules for the supply of defense assistance to Ukraine.
