Almost 200 Ukrainian citizens evacuated from Israel, evacuation of Ukrainians from Iran underway - Zelenskyy

Ukraine evacuated almost 200 of its citizens from Israel on the eve of the US military strikes on Iran's nuclear program facilities.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on Sunday, June 22.

According to him, shortly before the US took active action against Iran, Ukrainian diplomats and intelligence evacuated Ukrainian citizens from Israel. 176 people were evacuated to Egypt. Ukrainians are also being evacuated from Iran to Azerbaijan.

Citizens of partner countries were evacuated along with Ukrainians. These are citizens of Moldova, Latvia, Estonia, Azerbaijan, and the USA.

"We respond to every appeal and will continue evacuation measures. I have instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and intelligence to provide all the necessary protection for our people in the Middle East and the Gulf region," Zelenskyy wrote in his Telegram account.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on June 17, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine called on Ukrainian citizens to leave Israel and Iran as soon as possible.

Shortly before that, the Foreign Ministry published a list of Middle Eastern countries that it is recommended to refrain from visiting due to the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Iran.
