Ukraine can mobilize 27,000 people per month, while russia can mobilize 40,000-50,000 - Zelenskyy
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine can mobilize 27,000 people per month, while the aggressor state of russia can mobilize 40,000-50,000. At the same time, according to him, it is not the number of people that is important, but weapons and technology, as well as money and pressure on the russian federation.
He said this in an interview with the Hungarian publication Valasz online.
"Mobilization is a problem of every war. Ukraine is no exception, because we want the war to end. People are getting tired. We can mobilize 27,000 people per month, while the russians can mobilize 40,000-50,000, because their losses are greater. In our country, mobilization is possible due to the state of war. No one else has the experience of stopping putin. We were the ones who stopped him," Zelenskyy said.
The President noted that Ukraine did not mobilize 18-24-year-olds, but offered them one-year contracts.
"I have never said this before, but since you asked, I will tell you what I think, because this is a delicate issue. I do not believe that we should mobilize people from the age of 18, as leaders of other countries think," he added.
According to Zelenskyy, Operation Spider Web showed that it is not the number of people that is important, but weapons and technology, as well as money and pressure - in particular, sanctions should be aimed at the money that the russians use to finance the war. However, he pointed out, Western partners among the reasons for not introducing them are that Ukraine did not mobilize people aged 18 and older.
"Honestly, we gave 18-24-year-olds the opportunity to show that they can serve if our partners want it. Now we have given them this opportunity, in accordance with our legislation. But in the meantime, thousands of people are fighting at the front without proper weapons," he emphasized.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in February, the Ministry of Defense officially launched the "Contract 18-24" project - a voluntary initiative for Ukrainians aged 18-24 who are ready to join the Defense Forces for a period of one year.
In Ukraine, men aged 18 to 60 are subject to mobilization. At the same time, men under 25 are not called up if they do not have military education, military experience and have not served in the army.
Meanwhile, the Verkhovna Rada intends to allow citizens over 60 to undergo military service under a contract at their own request.
