Ukraine will only evaluate possible abandonment of hryvnia in favor of euro in 10-15 years - NBU Deputy Chair
Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine Serhii Nikolaichuk reported that Ukraine will only evaluate the possible abandonment of the hryvnia in favor of the euro in 10-15 years.
He said this in an interview with Forbes Ukraine, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"This will be a very, very long way. In 10-15 years, we will only evaluate how ready and how much we need it," Nikolaichuk said, answering the question of whether Ukraine is ready to abandon the hryvnia in favor of the euro at all?
According to the NBU representative, many EU countries still consider it advisable to have their own currencies and are quite categorical about this.
Although when joining the EU, they undertake to switch to the euro in a certain perspective.
"We are not considering including cryptocurrencies in the next five years in national reserves. We are quite conservative in this regard," Nikolaichuk added.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in March this year, banks imported 3.1 times more cash dollars than euros.
The National Bank of Ukraine is considering changing the base currency for currency policy orientation — from the US dollar to the euro.
