Farmers already sown 94% of spring grain and leguminous crops from projected area
As of May 23, 2025, farmers in all regions of Ukraine have sown 5.3 million hectares of spring grain and leguminous crops, which is 94% of the projected area.
This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
Buckwheat was sown on an area of 49,700 hectares (56%), millet – 43,900 hectares (58%).
It is noted that the largest area of crops is corn - 3.76 million hectares (93%), barley – 743,600 hectares (96%), spring wheat has already been sown on 215,300 hectares (95%), peas – 212,000 hectares (98%), oats – 158,400 hectares (98%).
Industrial crops are sown on an area of 6.8 million hectares (85%).
Of these: sunflower - 4.35 million hectares (86%), the leader is the Dnipropetrovsk Region – 668,400 hectares; soybean , 2 million hectares (84%); sugar beets – 217,100 hectares (99%), the leader is the Vinnytsia Rregion – 50,500 hectares.
Farmers have completed the sowing of sugar beets.
Leading regions in terms of sowing rates: Poltava Region: 545,200 hectares (wheat – 4,500 hectares, barley – 69,100 hectares, peas – 9,600 hectares, oats – 3,100 hectares, corn – 452,800 hectares); Chernihiv Region: 476,500 hectares (wheat – 12,000 hectares, barley – 13,000 hectares, peas – 9,400 hectares, oats – 23,500 hectares, corn – 406,700 hectares); Vinnytsia Region: 393,800 hectares (wheat – 11,500 hectares, barley – 53,000 hectares, peas – 7,000 hectares, oats – 1,100 hectares, corn – 309,100 hectares); Sumy Region: 385,800 hectares (wheat – 21,500 hectares, barley – 18,200 hectares, peas – 5,800 hectares, oats – 9,800 hectares, corn – 326,300 hectares) and Cherkasy Region: 372,600 hectares (wheat – 2,000 hectares, barley – 30,200 hectares, peas – 5,000 hectares, oats – 80 hectares, corn – 331,10 hectares).
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, as of May 16, 2025, farmers in all regions of Ukraine had sown 4.95 million hectares of spring grain and leguminous crops, which is 87% of the projected area.
In 2025, it is planned to sow more than 5.7 million hectares of spring grain and leguminous crops, which corresponds to the level of 2024.
The main feature of the new season will be an increase in the area under spring wheat to 227,500 hectares.
