If russia stops making unrealistic demands, Ukraine ready for any format of negotiations — Zelenskyy

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is ready for any format of negotiations with the aggressor country russia, but on condition that moscow stops making unrealistic demands.

Zelenskyy published the corresponding message on his official Telegram channel.

The President said that the war should end at the negotiating table, but there should be clear and realistic proposals on the table.

"Ukraine is ready for any effective format of negotiations," Zelenskyy stressed.

He added that if russia continues to make unrealistic demands and undermine possible results of the negotiations, there should be tough consequences.

Zelenskyy also wrote that russia is trying to buy time to continue the war and occupy as many Ukrainian territories as possible.

According to him, Ukraine continues to work with partners so that pressure forces the russians to change their behavior.

"Sanctions matter, and I am grateful to everyone who makes them more tangible for the perpetrators of the war," the head of state emphasized.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on Monday, May 19, US President Donald Trump had a telephone conversation with russian dictator vladimir putin.

Following the conversation, Trump said that Ukraine and russia "are immediately beginning negotiations on a ceasefire."

As we will recall, Trump later explained why he refused to impose tougher sanctions against russia due to its refusal to agree to a peaceful settlement.
