Something must have gone wrong: russians failed to carry out "intimidating" launch of Yars missile this night

The aggressor country of russia probably failed to launch the RS-24 Yars intercontinental ballistic missile, as the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine had warned about the day before.

This is reported by the Ukrainian portal Defense Express.

According to the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense, the missile launch was supposed to take place from the area of the settlement of Svobodny in the Sverdlovsk Oblast.

The 433rd regiment of the 42nd division of the 31st army of the strategic missile forces is based near this settlement.

It is noted that the city of Nizhny Tagil is located 25 km from the intended launch site. This is a relatively large settlement, so it can be assumed that the missile launch would have been filmed by local residents.

Defense Express recalled that earlier the russians posted on the Internet after launching intercontinental ballistic missiles.

In addition, the main test site in the direction of which the russians launch their intercontinental missiles is Kura in Kamchatka. Therefore, residents of many settlements in Siberia and the Far East could observe the flight of the missile.

Today, no video or photos were published on the Internet that would indicate the launch of the missile.

Why the russians did not launch the missile remains unknown. The portal suggests that the reason for this could be a malfunction detected during the pre-flight check, or an emergency situation.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on Sunday, May 18, the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine stated that the russians intend to conduct a training-combat launch of the Yars missile in order to intimidate Ukraine and its Western partners.

Recall that in January of this year, the Business Insider edition wrote, citing the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), that the russians cannot "put the RS-28 Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile to work" due to the severance of ties with Ukrainian engineers.
