EU to double supply of artillery shells to Ukraine this year

The European Union plans to double the supply of large-caliber artillery shells this year.

Chairman of the European Union Military Committee, Robert Brieger, has made the corresponding statement, Euronews reports.

"The goal is to deliver 2 million rounds of heavy calibre ammunition to your country during the current year. So it's about doubling the amount of the last year," Brieger said.

According to him, the European Union is encouraging the bloc's member states to produce more ammunition to achieve this goal.

For this, contracts concluded by the European Defense Agency are used, as well as increased cooperation with the Ukrainian defense industry.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, at the end of April this year, Denmark allocated USD 42 million for the purchase of artillery shells for Ukraine.

And in early April, Belgium announced the allocation of EUR 1 billion, part of which will be directed to investments in weapons production in Ukraine.

We also reported that in March, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that partners would provide Ukraine with licenses for weapons production.
