What will electoral system be like after war. Verkhovna Rada names format
The first parliamentary elections after the end of martial law should be held under a closed proportional system.
Alina Zahoruiko, a member of the Verkhovna Rada and the head of the subcommittee on elections, stated this in an interview with the Ukrainian News agency.
"My opinion on the organization of parliamentary elections and the electoral system boils down to the fact that the first post-war elections should be held under a regular proportional system. This is a closed list system," she said.
According to her, such a system will allow the elections to be held as organized as possible, without unnecessary difficulties and with understanding from the voters, which is especially important in the post-war period.
"A closed proportional electoral system is easy administration and simple logistics," she added.
Zahoruiko also emphasized that more than 4.5 million Ukrainian voters are abroad, and for them voting on "open" lists is practically impossible, unlike the proportional system.
At the same time, the MP predicts that the issue of the electoral system will cause an active discussion in parliament.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, according to current legislation, elections cannot be held during martial law, although some factions in the Verkhovna Rada have already begun preparing for them.
