Trump imposes 100% tariff on foreign films: says Hollywood is dying

US President Donald Trump has announced new restrictions on the import of foreign films. In a statement on the Truth Social platform, he announced the introduction of a 100% tariff on all films produced outside the United States, explaining this as a threat to the American film industry and national security.

“The Movie Industry in America is DYING a very fast death. Other Countries are offering all sorts of incentives to draw our filmmakers and studios away from the United States,” Trump wrote.

In his opinion, foreign competition, which he called a “concerted effort,” is not only damaging the US economy, but also threatening the ideological security of the country.

“Hollywood, and many other areas within the U.S.A., are being devastated,” the President added.

He said he had already instructed the departments: "Therefore, I am authorizing the Department of Commerce, and the United States Trade Representative, to immediately begin the process of instituting a 100% Tariff on any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands. WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN!”

This is not Trump's first attempt to change the country's trade policy through tariffs. Earlier in April, he announced the introduction of a 25% tariff on imported cars and parts, which caused a drop in European stock indices and concern among large corporations.

The White House's new actions could significantly affect the distribution of foreign films in the United States, as well as increase tensions in trade relations with a number of countries. Meanwhile, European film producers called Trump's decision to impose a 100% tariff on foreign films "madness."
