Trump appoints Mike Waltz as US Ambassador to UN - previously he was linked to Signal leak
National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, who was fired the day before, will become the US Ambassador to the UN.
US President Donald Trump wrote about this on his social network Truth Social on May 1.
According to Trump, Waltz "has worked hard to put out Nation's Interests first." The US President is confident that he will continue to do so in his new position.
In the meantime, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will perform the duties of the national security advisor. He will combine this activity with the leadership of the US Department of State.
As a reminder, US President's National Security Advisor Mike Waltz was fired along with his deputy Alex Wong due to the discussion of classified information in the Signal messenger.
On March 25, speculation appeared in the media about Waltz's dismissal.
On March 30, US President Donald Trump said that the leak of classified data on strikes on the Houthis via the Signal chat is "fake news", so he is not going to fire anyone from his team.
On March 31, the Wall Street Journal reported that US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz used the civilian messenger Signal not only for discussion of strike on the Yemeni Houthis, but also to discuss a peaceful settlement to russia's war against Ukraine.
