Kremlin representative to visit Washington for talks with Trump team – Reuters

The head of the russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev will arrive in the United States this week, where he will meet with President Donald Trump's special envoy.

Reuters reported this, citing a source familiar with the plans for the visit.

This is expected to be the first visit by a high-ranking russian official to Washington since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Dmitriev, who in February received the status of russia's special representative for international economic cooperation, will hold talks with Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff.

CNN previously reported that the meeting between Dmitriev and Witkoff will be about strengthening relations between the two countries amid the White House's attempts to find ways to end the war in Ukraine.

Dmitriev himself believes that "resistance to US-Russian dialogue is driven by entrenched interests and old narratives", instead "improving relations is the path to global security and peace", as he wrote on X (Twitter).

Reuters notes that his visit to Washington will take place after a series of phone conversations between Trump and putin, as well as against the backdrop of the US President's intentions to meet with the kremlin leader "in the near future".

Dmitriev is a sanctioned participant in the negotiations

Kirill Dmitriev has been under sanctions by the US and other Western countries since February 2022.

In February 2025, he was appointed putin's special representative for international investment cooperation.

Dmitriev previously participated in negotiations between the US and russia in Riyadh on February 18. The American delegation was then led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on April 1, russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Sergei Ryabkov said that moscow could not accept US proposals to end the war against Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the US realized that it would not be possible to end the war in the coming months.
