Ukraine needed to be forced to do right thing. Trump comments on Oval Office row
US President Donald Trump said that his discussion with Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a meeting in the Oval Office was due to the need to influence Ukraine. He also noted that the suspension of American weapons supplies did not affect the combat capability of the Ukrainian army.
Trump said this during a conversation with reporters on March 17.
"We had to get Ukraine to do the right thing. It was not an easy situation. You got to see a little glimpse at the Oval Office, but I think they're doing the right thing right now, and we're trying to get a peace agreement done," Trump explained.
He emphasized that many people die in the course of the war and considers his actions to be correct.
Commenting on the suspension of weapons and intelligence supplies to Ukraine, Trump stressed that this decision had no effect on the Ukrainian army in the Kursk Oblast of russia.
"No, not at all, no, really the opposite. I think it was appreciated and we have to understand and you have to understand that if I see somebody doing something bad that's going to cause a lot of death. The only reason I'm involved, and this is Russia and Ukraine, but a lot of people, it's humanity. I'm involved for humanity,” Trump said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on February 28, during the public part of the meeting, Zelenskyy got into a heated exchange with Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance.
