Trump’s envoy says they never cut off intelligence Ukraine needs for defense

United States Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff has said the US has never cut off intelligence for Ukraine's defense needs.

He said this in a comment to Fox News, quoted by Reuters.

"I think that we're going over there with an expectation that we're going to make substantial progress," he said of expectations for future talks between the US and Ukraine.

Witkoff also hopes that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will return to the US to sign a minerals deal this week. According to him, all the signs are "very, very positive."

According to him, the talks will include security protocols for Ukraine and territorial issues. They will also discuss intelligence sharing.

Witkoff said the US has never cut off intelligence for "anything defensive that the Ukrainians needed."

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, US President Donald Trump said that the country is close to resuming the transfer of intelligence information to Ukraine. The exchange was suspended along with the blocking of military aid at the initiative of Washington.

On March 4, US President Donald Trump ordered the suspension of all military aid to Ukraine. According to media reports, this was a response to a public quarrel with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The US also stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine, which helped the Ukrainian army more effectively confront the army of the aggressor country, russia. This made the HIMARS systems, which the Ukrainian military used to strike russian targets far from the front line, unusable.

In addition, Maxar Technologies blocked Ukraine's access to satellite images after the US instructed it to do so.
