Markarova says Trump read Zelenskyy's social media post to Congress, not letter

Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova has explained that US President Donald Trump read Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's social media post during his speech to Congress.

She announced this on her Facebook page, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"In a very difficult situation, we are still moving forward, building relationships and advancing our priorities. Our President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's post was read in his Address to the Nation by President Donald Trump and said, "I appreciate that he wrote this letter," she wrote.

Zelenskyy's press secretary, Serhii Nykyforov, confirmed in a comment to LIGA.net that there was no letter from the Ukrainian President and that Trump was talking about the post on the social network.

Earlier, Zelenskyy posted a message on X, noting that Ukraine is ready to sit down at the negotiating table, and the President's team is "ready to work under the strong leadership of President Trump."

"Our meeting in Washington, at the White House on Friday, did not go the way it was supposed to be. It is regrettable that it happened this way. It is time to make things right. We would like future cooperation and communication to be constructive," Zelenskyy's post says.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, US President Donald Trump told Congress that he had received an "important" letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which talks about Ukraine's readiness for negotiations to establish peace, as well as about agreeing to sign an agreement on minerals.

US President Donald Trump delivered his first address to Congress since his inauguration. In particular, he once again emphasized that the "golden age of America" has begun.
