Macron proposes month-long ceasefire for Ukraine in aviation, shipping and energy

French President Emmanuel Macron, together with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, is developing a peace plan for Ukraine. One of the initiatives is a temporary ceasefire lasting one month.

This is reported by Le Figaro.

According to the publication, Macron seeks an active role for Europe in resolving the war in Ukraine so that the continent does not become hostage to a possible agreement between Washington and Moscow.

"Emmanuel Macron does not believe in the ceasefire agreement concluded between the Americans and the russians, he is convinced that vladimir putin will first of all try to humiliate Ukraine, in particular by demilitarizing it," Le Figaro writes.

In this context, Macron and Starmer proposed their own Franco-British plan. It provides for a month-long ceasefire in three key areas - "in the air, at sea and in energy".

According to the French President, such a model has an advantage over a general ceasefire, as it will allow for more effective monitoring of compliance with the agreements.

"We must understand that the front today is the equivalent of the Paris-Budapest line. In the event of a general ceasefire, it would be very difficult to verify whether the ceasefire is being observed along the entire front line," Macron stressed.

As a reminder, the United Kingdom, France and other countries will work with Ukraine on a plan to end russia's war against Ukraine, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Sunday after a summit of European leaders in London.
