Minerals deal 'almost' done, Zelenskyy to come to US on February 28 – Trump

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has agreed with the White House on a draft mineral extraction agreement.

U.S. President Donald Trump said this, Fox News reports.

Trump told reporters that Zelenskyy plans to come to Washington on Friday for a meeting after agreeing on the terms of the deal. According to Trump, negotiations are still ongoing.

"We have almost agreed on our deal regarding land [minerals] and various other things," Trump said.

He also noted: " Later, we will address the broader security issue for Ukraine. I don't think that will be a problem. Many people want to do this, and I have spoken to Russia about it. They don’t seem to have any issues with it. So I think they understand that they won’t take it back. And once we finalize this, they won’t take it back."

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the White House warned that Ukraine would be a little unhappy after the agreement with russia.

On February 24, Olha Stefanishyna said that the Ukrainian and U.S. teams are in the final stages of negotiations on a minerals agreement.

On February 23, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on February 23 that he did not intend to recognize Ukraine's USD 500 billion debt to the U.S., which U.S. President Donald Trump insisted on.

On February 23, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that as part of the agreement on U.S. access to Ukrainian rare earth minerals, the U.S. would not become the owner of physical assets in Ukraine.
