Naftogaz CEO Chumak speaks about gas situation after russian shelling at meeting with IMF mission
On February 21, Naftogaz CEO Roman Chumak met with the leadership of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission in Ukraine.
The group has said this in a statement, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
The statement said that at the beginning of the meeting, Chumak thanked the IMF for its long-term and steady support for Ukraine and informed the leadership of the IMF mission about the efforts made by Naftogaz to support the country's energy sustainability and the sustainable heating season.
According to Chumak, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Naftogaz facilities have been subjected to 15 missile and drone attacks.
The production facilities have suffered significant damage, but the group is doing everything possible to continue operating and providing consumers with gas.
"We are fully in control of the situation. Yes, it is difficult, but not critical. Naftogaz imports gas in the volumes necessary to balance the system and meet the needs of all consumer groups,” Roman Chumak said.
It is noted that the head of Naftogaz thanked the IMF representatives for the open dialogue and support and expressed hope for enhanced cooperation to ensure Ukraine’s energy sustainability.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on February 20, the International Monetary Fund mission began work in Ukraine on the 7th review of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF).
At the beginning of the month, the Naftogaz group urgently purchased about 150 million cubic meters of gas in the European Union for February.
Ukraine plans to import up to 800 million cubic meters of natural gas from Europe in February and March to compensate for a 40% drop in production after missile strikes by the aggressor country russia.
