White House announces key issue of negotiations to end war in Ukraine

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the key issue of the upcoming negotiations to end the war in Ukraine should be what russia is willing to do to end the conflict. In his opinion, the same question should be asked of Ukraine.

Rubio said this in an interview with the Breitbart News portal.

He noted that the United States voted against a UN resolution condemning russia's actions because it was "antagonistic" and contradicted efforts to organize peace talks.

"On the broader resolution, we think the UN needs to get—if it’s going to be useful in the 21st century—the UN needs to get back to its charter mission, which is the prevention and ending of war and conflict," Rubio said.

He also noted that President Donald Trump seeks to end the war because "far too many people have died and he wants to bring it to an end."

Rubio stressed that the U.S. tried to organize negotiations, but Ukraine did not agree, choosing to continue defending its position. According to him, in the UN Security Council, the U.S. proposed a compromise, which he called "very fair language".

The Secretary of State also added that Trump is a "peace president" and did not rule out that the war in Ukraine could end in a few weeks if both sides sit down at the negotiating table.

Rubio said that last week the U.S. delegation met with russian representatives, where the question was discussed: "Are you interested in ending this conflict or not?".

"Obviously, we’ve got to ask Ukraine the same question because you can’t stop a war unless both sides agree to it," Rubio concluded.

Recall, according to American media, Ukraine and the U.S. are working together to complete the work on the minerals agreement this week.
