63,000 Ukrainians considered missing - Interior Ministry
According to the Register of Missing Persons under Special Circumstances, almost 63,000 Ukrainians are considered missing.
This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"To date, the search is ongoing for 62,948 people. At the same time, we do not divide this figure into military and civilian persons - this is a figure that includes both military and civilian persons. Currently, the location of the bodies of the deceased has been established and identified - this is 10,291 people," said the Commissioner for Persons Missing in Special Circumstances Artur Dobroserdov.
At the same time, he noted that information is entered into the Register mainly on people who disappeared in the combat zone or in the occupied territories of Ukraine. Information is also entered into the Register on persons who disappeared as a result of extraordinary events or due to events of a natural or man-made nature.
In addition, it is noted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs is developing expert services and training specialists to identify repatriated bodies.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in January, the Cabinet of Ministers eliminated a legal conflict that did not allow relatives of persons missing under special circumstances to obtain a postponement of mobilization, replacing the requirement to provide a court decision on recognizing a person as missing with an extract from the Unified Register of Missing Persons.
In May 2024, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets reported that since the beginning of russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 52,700 people have been considered missing, about 37,000 of them - under special circumstances, among the missing - 3,700 children.
