AMCU allows 2 individuals to buy BTA Bank

The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) granted permission to two Ukrainian citizens to acquire control over JSC BTA Bank.

This is stated in the AMCU's statement, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

Such a decision was made at a meeting on January 23.

At the same time, the committee did not specify the names of the citizens who were granted permission to buy the bank.

The owner of 100% of BTA Bank shares is a citizen of Kazakhstan Kenes Rakishev.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in 2020, Belarusian businessman, the owner of the country's largest private oil trader "Interservice", Mikalai Varabei, wanted to buy BTA Bank.

However, the NBU refused to approve the deal due to the business reputation of Varabei, against whom EU sanctions were imposed.

In December 2021, the AMCU allowed the fintech company Kaspi.kz (Kazakhstan) to buy the Ukrainian BTA Bank.

In October of the same year, Kaspi.kz announced the signing of a purchase and sale agreement for 100% of the bank's shares and plans to complete the deal in the first half of 2022.

However, due to the start of russia's war against Ukraine, the deal was not completed.

In March 2023, the AMCU allowed the purchase of 50% of BTA Bank shares by a Georgian citizen, Rati Tchelidze, who is listed as a beneficiary of the CC Capital group.

However, this deal was not completed either.
