Trump instructs Kellogg to end war in Ukraine in 100 days - WSJ
US President Donald Trump has instructed his special representative for Ukraine and russia, Keith Kellogg, to end russian aggression against Ukraine in 100 days, but he is going to personally supervise the negotiations at all stages.
The Wall Street Journal reported this on Wednesday, January 22.
The publication writes that Kellogg's influence on the peace process will be controversial, since it is currently unclear how he should force russia to stop the war against Ukraine. According to the publication, it is not a fact that he will be allowed to participate in the negotiations with russia, which Trump is going to supervise.
"Trump enjoys his company and sees him as a fiercely loyal guy, but he has never had any significant influence on policy... He is definitely not going to propose anything that deviates from what Trump thinks," said one of the former White House staffers.
According to former Trump adviser John Bolton, Kellogg "never expresses his opinion until Trump asks for it," so he will not have too much subjectivity in the negotiation process. Former colleagues of the special representative generally believe that he "will not participate in any real negotiations with russia." WSJ suggests that Kellogg's appointment was a "debut gambit" by Trump, who will actually personally conduct all the main negotiations.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on December 9, Trump confirmed that he had spoken with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about the possibility of ending the war.
On December 18, Kellogg said that the Ukrainian and russian sides were ready to hold talks.
On January 9, Kellogg said that within 100 days of Trump's inauguration, he would try to find a fair and credible solution to end the war of the aggressor country of russia against Ukraine.
