Lithuania to guard power lines with Poland before disconnection from russian grid
Lithuania has taken over the LitPol Link power line with Poland, which will synchronize the Baltic states with continental Europe in February, under guard since Wednesday, January 15.
This was reported by the Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT.
The Public Security Service is to take over the distribution point and transformer substation from a private security service in April. However, the government approved a proposal to postpone the deadlines to January.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Internal Affairs explained that the new procedure was developed taking into account the planned February 8 disconnection of the Baltic states' power grids from the russian system and connection to European networks.
The decision was also influenced by the tense security situation in the Baltic Sea, where electrical and telecommunications cables have recently been damaged.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, a fiber-optic Internet cable between Finland and Sweden broke in December.
In November, the C-Lion-1 submarine fiber-optic communication cable between Finland and Germany was damaged.
In March, an internet cable connecting Europe and Asia was damaged in the Red Sea.
