Norway will not provide asylum to Ukrainian refugees from 14 regions

The Norwegian government considers 14 regions of Ukraine safe and will not consider applications for protection from residents of these regions.

This is stated on the website of the Norwegian Immigration Service.

Norway will consider the following regions as safe:

• Cherkasy;
• Chernivtsi;
• Khmelnytskyi;
• Kirovohrad;
• Kyiv (region, but not the city of Kyiv);
• Poltava;
• Vinnytsia;
• Zhytomyr.

Prior to this, in September 2024, the Norwegian government recognized six more regions as safe:

• Ivano-Frankivsk;
• Lviv;
• Rivne;
• Ternopil;
• Volyn;
• Zakarpattia.

The Norwegian Immigration Service explained that safe regions are those where the Ukrainian authorities mostly control the situation, and russia has no or minimal control and influence.

Residents of these regions will not be able to receive collective protection. And those who have moved to the country in the last six months will have this protection revoked.

Since the Norwegian government is hesitant about what to consider a person's last place of residence, the migration service will consider each application separately. However, in this case, the applicant will have to prove that the Ukrainian authorities were unable to provide him with protection.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Canada is launching a state advertisement, where potential migrants will be assured in 11 languages, including Ukrainian, that it is difficult to obtain asylum in the country.
