Transnistria introduces rolling blackouts

For residents of the separatist Moldovan region of Transnistria, rolling blackouts will be introduced on January 3.

This was reported by the Newsmaker publication.

The local authorities of the unrecognized region stated that the power system produces less electricity than the residents consume. The rolling blackouts will be in effect from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The so-called leader of the Transnistria Republic, Vadim Krasnoselsky, noted that rolling blackouts are "inevitable" for the region due to the heavy load on the power system.

"Premises without centralized heating and gas boilers are cooling down, electricity consumption is expected to increase. A sharp jump in load inevitably leads to emergency situations. Just the day before and today, specialists eliminated the consequences of 136 accidents on power grids. 3,227 consumers were left without electricity for several minutes to several hours - depending on the complexity of the problem - and in the current realities, without heat," Krasnoselsky said.

According to him, the rolling blackouts are necessary to preserve the power system.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on January 1, heating and hot water supply were turned off in unrecognized Transnistria.

On January 2, 75,000 homes in Transnistria were left without gas, and coal for generating heat and electricity was left for 50 days.

Also on January 2, the press secretary of the Moldovan government, Daniel Voda, stated that the Moldovan government considers the actions of the aggressor country of russia, which left the residents of unrecognized Transnistria without light and heat, to be blackmail.
