Tons of sunflowerseed oil spill into Pivdennyi Buh River in Mykolaiv Region due to drone attack
On the night of December 28, 2024, drone debris damaged a tank with vegetable oil at an agricultural enterprise in Mykolaiv. As a result, the oil leaked into the surrounding area and entered the Pivdennyi Buh River.
This was reported by the city mayor, Oleksandr Sienkevych.
"All these days, specialists have been pumping out the oil. So far, 25 tons have been pumped out. The work continues," Sienkevych said.
To eliminate the consequences, the State Emergency Service specialists installed boom barriers in places of water pollution.
Experts claim that there is no significant damage to the environment, since the oil is organic.
As of 08:40 p.m., 42 tons of vegetable oil had been pumped out of the Pivdennyi Buh River, Sienkevych reported.
"We also purchased a ton of absorbent. After we collect as many stains as possible, we will neutralize them with absorbent," the mayor said.
According to him, on January 3, equipment will be working to collect the contaminated soil layer.

During the attack by russian drones on the Pecherskyi district of Kyiv, the famous Ukrainian neurobiologist Ihor Zyma and his wife, biologist Olesia Sokur, were tragically killed.
In addition, debris from the drone fell on one of the buildings of the National Bank of Ukraine.
The Writers' House was also damaged - almost no windows remained intact in the building.
