Power cable between Finland and Estonia breaks in Baltic Sea
For an unknown reason, one of the largest power transmission lines between Finland and Estonia, the Estlink 2 cable, was damaged in the Baltic Sea.
This was reported by the Finnish publication Yle.
Arto Pahkin, head of the dispatching service of Fingrid, which manages the Finnish power grids, announced the break of the EstLink 2 cable.
According to him, the Estlink 2 power line was disconnected on December 25. The cable break did not affect the electricity supply to the residents of Finland.
"The cause of the failure is not yet known, and work is currently underway in cooperation with the Estonian network company and the authorities," he said in his message.
Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo wrote on the social network X (formerly Twitter) that even at Christmas, the country's authorities are on alert and are investigating the incident.
The Finnish newspaper Iltalehti wrote that, according to information from the MarineTraffic service, the container ship Xin Tian 2, flying the Hong Kong flag, was next to the Estlink 2 cable at the time of the cable break.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in early December, an internet cable belonging to the Global Connect company broke between Finland and Sweden.
Recall that in November, the only fiber-optic cable connecting Finland with the countries of Central Europe was broken in the Baltic Sea.
