Military ombudsman to be authorized by President - MP Bobrovska (Holos)

The military ombudsman, whose institution is planned to be created, will be authorized by the President, and not by the Ministry of Defense or the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This was told to journalists by Solomiya Bobrovska, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Holos faction, a member of the National Defense Committee, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"I know that we are talking about the creation of an ombudsman, who, fortunately, will not be under the umbrella of the Ministry of Defense and not under the General Staff. This will be an authorized person of the President of Ukraine," she said.

According to her, it is currently impossible to create an ombudsman from the Verkhovna Rada, since this would require amending the Constitution, which is prohibited during martial law.

Bobrovska noted that the military ombudsman will deal not only with servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but also with other military formations and bodies of the Defense Forces, which are subordinate not only to the Ministry of Defense.

"I think that this person should undergo a full examination, including a polygraph, and at least clearly state his position with a desire to help servicemen figure things out, and not cast aside all matters related to moral and psychological support," the MP said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that an ombudsman for the rights of military personnel (military ombudsman) will appear in Ukraine.
