Russia's Oreshnik launch won't change anything on battlefield – Pentagon

Russia's launch of another Oreshnik missile could happen in the coming days, but it won't change the situation on the battlefield.

Pentagon deputy press secretary Sabrina Singh stated this during a press briefing.

The U.S. Department of Defense spokeswoman noted that earlier russian president vladimir putin publicly stated that russia intends to launch another experimental Oreshnik missile.

"It's possible that Russia could do it in the coming days. I don't have an exact date for you," Singh said.

According to her, the relevant conclusions were made based on the assessment of U.S. intelligence. At the same time, the Pentagon spokeswoman could not say exactly what targets russia could strike.

She also stated that if russia attacks Ukraine again with Oreshnik, it will not change the situation on the battlefield.

"It's just yet another attempt to inflict harm and casualties in Ukraine. You know, we've seen this before. They're trying to use every weapon that they have in their arsenal to intimidate Ukraine," Singh said.

In addition, the official said that Washington will continue to provide its support to Ukraine. In particular, air defense remains one of the priorities for Ukraine's defense.

"But of course Ukraine, with the United States, other partners around the world, continues to have our support as they, you know, fight every single day on the battlefield," the U.S. defense spokeswoman added.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on November 21, russia attacked the city of Dnipro with an experimental intermediate-range ballistic missile Oreshnik (Kedr), which can carry a nuclear warhead.

Earlier on November 22, the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine said that it was aware of a new russian missile.

On December 6, russian dictator vladimir putin said that missile systems with Oreshnik missiles would be deployed in Belarus.
