US conducts first successful ballistic missile interception test - Pentagon

The US Missile Defense Agency has successfully intercepted a medium-range ballistic missile from the air for the first time during a test near the island of Guam, the Pentagon said, according to the Straits Times and Reuters on Tuesday, December 10.

"During the test, dubbed Flight Experiment Mission-02 (FEM-02), the Aegis Guam system, integrated with a new AN/TPY-6 radar and vertical launch system, launched a standard Missile-3 Block IIA missile. The missile, manufactured by RTX Corp, formerly Raytheon, successfully intercepted a medium-range ballistic missile target launched from the air off the coast of Andersen Air Force Base," the report said.

The media recalled that Guam, located in the western Pacific Ocean, is a strategic military outpost that plays a crucial role in maintaining the US presence in the region and deterring potential enemies.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on November 22, the Pentagon stated that the US is ready to expand and modernize its nuclear arsenal to provide deterrence in response to growing challenges.

Russian dictator putin stated that the russians tested a new hypersonic medium-range ballistic missile Oreshnik in response to attacks by Western weapons on the Bryansk and Kursk Oblasts.
