Lights on country's main Christmas tree lit up on Sofiyska Square in Kyiv
Lights on the country's main Christmas tree lit up on Sofiyska Square in Kyiv.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced this on his Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"Today, according to tradition - on St. Nicholas Day, lights on the country's main Christmas tree were lit on Sofiyska Square in the capital," he said.
Klitschko noted that this year, like last year, the Christmas tree is artificial and 15 meters high (last year's was 12 meters), but this year it is snow-white.
According to him, the white color of the Christmas tree symbolizes the beginning of a bright and clean path, reminding of the renewal that Christmas and the New Year bring. A light blue garland 2 km long wrapped the tree, decorated with 2,000 turquoise toys.
"Such a symbolic design is combined with the majestic facade of St. Sophia Cathedral, creating a magical atmosphere," he noted.
Klitschko emphasized that the Christmas tree was installed and decorated at the expense of patrons. There will be a symbolic photo zone - "Phoenix Wings" next to the tree.
Klitschko congratulated everyone on St. Nicholas Day and wished them strength, optimism and that miracles happen.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Klitschko previously reported that patrons will install a New Year tree on Sofiyska Square in Kyiv, if the relevant decision is approved by the city's Defense Council.
In 2023, the country's main Christmas tree was also installed and decorated at the expense of patrons on Sofiyska Square in Kyiv by December 6 - St. Nicholas Day in a new style.
