New Deputy Commander-in-Chief Apostol will be responsible for improving training of military - Zelenskyy

The new Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleh Apostol, will be responsible for improving the training of the Ukrainian military.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this in a traditional evening video address, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"Oleh Apostol is a Hero of Ukraine, has held all command positions in the Ground Forces units, has also been defending our state since year 2014, and clearly knows what is needed to strengthen the combat capability of our army. Now it is Oleh Apostol who will be responsible for the new quality of training of our soldiers, he has full support at all levels to ensure this. The Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are the foundation of the army. And much depends for Ukraine on how effectively the structure of the Ground Forces and all the Defense and Security Forces of Ukraine will work," he noted.

Zelenskyy also reported that on Friday, together with Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, he determined that it is worth replacing the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"Changes are needed - changes in people management that will ensure greater results on the battlefield," the President emphasized.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on November 29, Zelenskyy appointed Mykhailo Drapatyi as the new Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, replacing Oleksandr Pavliuk, and Oleh Apostol as the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Until today, Apostol was the commander of the 95th Separate Air Assault Polissia Brigade.

Zelenskyy also appointed Pavlo Palisa, the commander of the 93rd Kholodnyi Yar Brigade, as the  deputy head of the Office of the President, noting that he needs exactly such a person to know the exact information directly from the front on a daily basis.
