Russia lures hundreds of Yemenis into war, taking advantage of their lack of russian language skills - media
Russian recruiters are deceiving hundreds of Yemenis into fighting against Ukraine, promising them jobs in the civilian sector.
This is reported by the Financial Times, whose journalists spoke to Yemeni citizens.
The men are promised high salaries and russian citizenship. They are not told that the work will be in any way related to the army. A company linked to the Houthis is recruiting. When the men arrive in russia, they are forcibly taken to the front line.
Yemenis sign a contract with Al Jabri General Trading& Investment Co SPC, founded by one of the Houthi leaders. The journalists managed to talk to one of the men who, as part of a group of 200 people, signed a contract with this company. They signed the contracts for military service because they thought they were employment contracts. They did not know russian and did not understand what was written there.
Yemeni citizens were brought to Moscow, promising high-paying jobs in the field of "security" and "engineering", but after a few weeks they were sent to the territory of Ukraine. There they dug trenches and were constantly attacked by Ukrainian drones.
They did not want to be on the front, so one of the Yemenis even tried to commit suicide. He was taken to the hospital. There were cases when a man who spoke Arabic poorly shot into the air when Yemenis refused to sign contracts.
Financial Times journalists say that if russia is looking for mercenaries in Yemen, then it has an acute shortage of soldiers, and the Kremlin is trying to avoid a second wave of mobilization at all costs. The recruitment of Yemenis also indicates that russia is getting closer and closer to Iran and its allies.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in December 2023, the National Resistance Center (NRC) stated that the russians were conducting a recruitment campaign to gather 50 to 100 soldiers and officers. They were to be sent to Africa to recruit local residents for the war against Ukraine.
We will remind, in March of this year, it became known that the russians were taking out mercenaries from Cuba and Nepal to the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
We also reported that Sri Lanka is demanding compensation from russia for the deaths of citizens recruited for the war against Ukraine.
