Will deferral for contract masters be canceled? Rada's Education Committee gives answer

A Verkhovna Rada member from the Servant of the People faction, chairman of the parliamentary committee on education, science and innovation, Serhii Babak, is convinced that there is no need to introduce safeguards for admission to a master's degree similar to a postgraduate degree regarding abuse of deferrals.

He said this in an interview with the Ukrainian News agency.

"In my opinion, there is no need to introduce any additional changes or safeguards for a master's degree now, everything is more or less balanced," he said regarding the possibility of canceling the full-time form of study for contract masters, which gives the right to a deferral from mobilization, by analogy with the decision regarding postgraduate students.

At the same time, Babak is against lowering the passing score for the Unified Entrance Exam, which is taken by those who enter a master's degree and postgraduate degree.

According to the MP, the test for general academic competence is quite simple.

Babak called the English language proficiency test necessary to do scientific research.

"If you don't know what's happening in the world in your scientific field, then what objective information can you have? It seems to me that this is a normal practice and there is nothing wrong with it," Babak explained.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the abolition of full-time study for postgraduate students on contract, which gives the right to a deferral from mobilization, will continue next year.
