Deferral from mobilization for contract postgraduate students will not be renewed in 2025 - education committee head Babak

The abolition of full-time study for postgraduate students on contracts, which gives the right to deferral from mobilization, will continue next year.

Serhii Babak, a Member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction, head of the parliamentary committee on education, science and innovation reported this in an interview with the Ukrainian News agency.

"I think so. In fact, we have not yet approached a deep analysis of this issue, only superficially, but by the end of the year we have agreed with the Ministry to analyze it at one of the committee meetings. I feel that we will continue this practice," this is how he answered the question of whether the full-time study for postgraduate students on contracts will be banned next year.

According to Babak, postgraduate studies have been used for the last two and a half years to evade mobilization, not for science.

"Under the slogan that 'we need to attract young people to science,' more than 90,000 people registered for the postgraduate exam. Despite the fact that we only graduated a few thousand each year," the MP explained.

Babak also opposes lowering the score on the Unified Entrance Exam for admission to a budget form of postgraduate study, which gives the right to a deferral.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Ministry of Education and Science changed the rules for admission to postgraduate study in 2024 due to a large influx of men of draft age, for whom the study gives a deferral from mobilization.
