Israel destroys key facilities of Iran's nuclear program during attack in October - Axios

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) destroyed one of the key facilities of Iran's nuclear program during a missile attack on the Islamic Republic on October 25, 2024.

The Axios portal reported this with reference to three American and two Israeli officials.

It is about a facility called "Talegan-2". It is located on the territory of the Parchin military complex, located 30 kilometers southeast of the Iranian capital.

The facility was part of Iran's Amad nuclear weapons program until the Islamic Republic halted its work in 2003.

According to the Institute for Science and International Security (ISIS), "Talegan-2" was used to test explosives needed to activate a nuclear device.

Satellite images published online also confirm the information that the Israeli army destroyed this facility.

According to Axios interlocutors, the activities that have recently been carried out at the “Talegan-2” facility were part of the Iranian government's efforts to conduct research that could be used to develop nuclear weapons.

"They were conducting scientific activities that could lay the foundation for the production of nuclear weapons. It was completely secret," said an unnamed US official.

According to him, only a small part of the members of the Iranian government knew exactly what “Talegan-2” was doing, which indicates the high level of secrecy of this facility.

It will be recalled that on October 25, Israel carried out a missile attack on the territory of Iran. Military facilities of both the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and regular units of the Iranian army came under attack.

This was a response to the actions of Tehran, which launched a massive missile attack on the territory of Israel on October 1.

A few days after the attack, the IDF said that as a result of the strike on October 25, Iran lost its strategic capabilities for the next few years.

Iran has vowed to attack Israel again, but this time with more powerful weapons and a regular army.

At the same time, the US privately asked Tehran to refrain from a new strike on Israel, because they fear that the Israeli army may attack the facilities of Iran's energy and nuclear complex in response.
