Loss of Pokrovsk in Donetsk Region will lead to 50 percent drop in steel production in Ukraine
The loss of control over the city of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk Region and the coal mining enterprises located there threatens Ukraine with a 50 percent reduction in the level of steel production.
Oleksandr Kalenkov, president of the Ukrmetalurgprom association of enterprises, made a corresponding statement, his words are quoted by Ekonomichna Pravda.
Kalenkov said that before the start of the full-scale invasion of russia, the level of steel production in Ukraine was 6-6.5 million tons per year.
The resources located in the territory controlled by Ukraine will make it possible to double steel production to 12 million tons per year.
However, in the event of the loss of a number of enterprises in the area of Pokrovsk, production figures may decrease to 2-3 million tons per year.
The reason is that a few kilometers from Pokrovsk is the only company in the country that produces hard coal coke. This is the most common solid fuel used in blast furnaces and other mine furnaces.
The loss of control over Pokrovsk threatens with a shortage of coking coal, which will affect the production of steel in Ukraine.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in September, the Bloomberg agency wrote that the steel industry of Ukraine will be forced to import coal if the russian invaders succeed in capturing Pokrovsk in the Donetsk Region.
We will remind, on September 13, the head of the Pokrovsk District Military Administration, Volodymyr Zamotaiev, said that russian troops were 7 kilometers away from Pokrovsk.
