AFU down russian helicopter with drone for the first time, it happened in Kursk Oblast. Video published
Ukrainian blogger Serhii Sternenko published a video of the destruction of a helicopter of the russian occupation army with the help of a UAV. This is probably the first evidence of the successful use of drones for this purpose.
Sternenko published the relevant video on his Telegram channel.
According to him, this video was "leaked" on the network by an unknown person the day before. Probably, the appearance of the video on the network was not currently part of the plans of the Ukrainian military.
"It was the work with the long drone that you donated. And there were some other plans that are now in danger due to the leak <...> But since the leak has already happened, we are now preparing a video in normal quality and will show it," the blogger wrote.
The video taken by the FPV drone camera shows the damage to the Mi-28 attack helicopter.
Judging by the video, the drone hit the tail rotor of the helicopter. The further fate of the aircraft is unknown.
(The news was updated with information about the destruction of the russian helicopter, as well as a full video).
Later, Sternenko reported that the russian helicopter was shot down by servicemen of the M2 unit of the Special Operations Center (SOC) of the Security Service of Ukraine.
According to Sternenko, the russian helicopter was shot down in the Kursk Oblast, where hostilities continue for the second day.
The blogger published a full video of the destruction of the russian helicopter. The video also shows two more attempts to attack other helicopters of the occupiers.
What is known about the Mi-28 helicopter
Mi-28 is a Soviet and russian attack helicopter. Produced by the russian holding "Rostvertol". The cost of one helicopter is estimated at approximately USD 18 million.
The helicopter is designed for the search and destruction of manpower, armored vehicles and low-speed air targets.
According to data from open sources, as of 2024, about 110 Mi-28 helicopters of various modifications were in service with the russian Armed Forces.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of russia into Ukraine, at least 6 cases of destruction of Mi-28 helicopters have been recorded.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on July 31, russian propagandists complained that in the area of Donetsk captured by the Russian army, the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed a Mi-8 helicopter with the help of a drone.
Later, the russians themselves stated that the helicopter was destroyed by a missile fired from an M270 or M142 HIMARS multiple-launch rocket system.
