Person, who committed Iryna Farion murder, faces up to 15 years in prison, investigation considering versions – law enforcement officers
After the death of public figure Iryna Farion, the Prosecutor General's Office announced the reclassification of the crime from "attempt" to "intentional murder."
The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to 15 years, the PGO clarified.
Currently, law enforcement officers are trying to identify and catch the attacker.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on the evening of July 19, an unknown person shot Iryna Farion in the temple near her home in Lviv. According to preliminary information, the attacker is a 20-25-year-old man who was wearing gloves and used a weapon without a silencer.
The woman in critical condition with a severe penetrating gunshot wound to the brain was hospitalized, where she underwent surgery and was even transferred to the intensive care unit for further treatment, but her heart failed.
Later, during the briefing, the Minister of Interior Affairs Ihor Klymenko said that currently the investigators have versions about the attacker's personal enmity and the murder because of Farion's socio-political activities.
During the briefing in Lviv, Ihor Klymenko said that the investigation has data that the suspect was near Iryna Farion's house at the specified time for several days.
"We are checking all the information, we are working with witnesses, we are contacting everyone who can provide the investigation with additional information. I want to thank the people who have already provided this information," Ihor Klymenko said.
The minister also said that a shell casing was found at the scene of the crime, and that the shooter was "a man in a hat." After the forensic examination, investigators will have additional information.
