MP Hetmantsev predicts introduction of excise tax on sweet drinks

Member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction, chairman of the parliamentary committee on finance, tax and customs policy, Danylo Hetmantsev, highly appreciates the prospects of the adoption of the law on the introduction of an excise tax on sweet drinks.

He told journalists about this, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"The corresponding provision was included in the IMF memorandum. This taxation is provided for in the memorandum. I very much appreciate the prospect of this law after that," he said, answering a question about the likelihood of passing a law on the introduction of a tax on sweet drinks.

He said that, according to the calculations of the Ministry of Finance, the introduction of an excise tax on sweet drinks will provide additional income to the budget of UAH 5-7 billion per year.

Hetmantsev believes that the tax committee will support the bill and it will go to the parliament hall.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Mykhailo Radutskyi, a member of the Verkhovna Rada from the Servant of the People faction, head of the parliamentary committee on national health, medical care and medical insurance, is in favor of introducing a tax on sweet carbonated drinks.
