If Ukraine does not protect its gas storage facilities, its western neighbors will be left without gas - Zelenskyy
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that if Western partners do not help Ukraine protect gas storage facilities, then Western neighbors will be left without gas.
Zelenskyy said this at a press conference, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"I believe that it is fair that for the security of the western part of our country, where the gas storages are, and for Poland, since this is the same direction of the russian missile, if Poland helps us shoot down the missiles that are going in the direction of Poland. We are talking about this direction - the gas storage of Ukraine, where it often flies in. It is interesting that there are countries, you know, who are skeptical of us in principle, so it is very important that these countries use the gas that is in our gas storage. And it seems to me that this skepticism of the countries should decrease, because if we do not protect our gas storages, then these countries, our closest neighbors, will be left without gas during the heating season," he said.
Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine has signed bilateral security guarantees with Poland, which provide for a technical review of this issue.
"We raised this topic and raised it legally. I cannot guarantee you today that 100%, but I believe that we have taken the first step. Then there are nuances," he said.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the security agreement with Poland, signed on July 8, provides for the possibility of intercepting missiles and drones in the airspace of Ukraine, launched in the direction of Poland.
Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said that Warsaw is considering Kyiv's proposal to shoot down russian missiles headed for Polish territory while they are still in Ukrainian airspace.
