Defence Ministry Evacuates Aviation Equipment From The Military Unit Off Vasylkiv Over Kyiv Region Petroleum Depot Fire

The Cabinet of Ministers has gathered for an emergency meting for the issues of extinguishing the fire at the petroleum depot in Kyiv Region.

The Ministry of Defence has evacuated aviation equipment from the military unit off Vasylkiv because of the fire in the territory of a petroleum storage depot in the village of Kriachky, Vasylkiv District, Kyiv Region, press officer of the Armed Forces Air Force Roman Yurchylo has told a news briefing.

"The said unit keeps aviation property and aviation equipment. So far, almost all the said property has been evacuated to a safe zone beyond escalation, outside the airfield, outside the military unit. Almost not a single piece of equipment was damaged. Thanks to the changed direction of wind outbound from the military unit they managed to complete this work promptly," he said.

Moreover, he says the grass was mowed and trenches dug in the territory of the military airfield to prevent propagation of the blaze.

The Defence of Ministry is pulling fire-fighting tanks to the place of fire at the petroleum storage depot in the village of Kriachky, Vasylkiv District, Kyiv Region in preparation for propagation of the blaze.

Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council (NSDC) Oleksandr Turchynov calls probable causes of the fire at the petroleum storage depot in Kyiv Region violation of safety norms and a sabotage attack.

The State Emergency Situations Service has contained the fire in a forestland after the explosion in the territory of a petroleum storage depot in the village of Kriachky, Vasylkiv District.
