Poroshenko Approves Denunciation Of Agreements With Russia On Interstate Military Transport, Transit Of Russian Troops To Moldova

President Petro Poroshenko has signed laws denouncing Ukraine's agreements with Russia on international military transport and transit of Russian troops to Moldova.

The governments of Ukraine and Russia signed the documents in Sochi (Russia) on 25 November 1995.

The agreement on transit of Russian troops temporarily stationed on the territory of Moldova through the territory of Ukraine establishes the procedure and conditions for and the particulars of transportation on transit, authorization, and monitoring by the Ukrainian side.

The agreement on organization of intergovernmental military transportation and settlement for them regulated the issue of transportation of military units, commands, and their families, which was performed by rail, air, or road from Ukraine to Russia and from Russia to Ukraine, as well as from Ukraine abroad and back through Russia and from Russia to other countries and back on transit through Ukrainian territory.

The documents were signed for five years with automatic extension unless one of the parties informs the other party of its intention to terminate it in writing six months beforehand.

In addition, according to the information on the website of the parliament, Poroshenko has approved the denunciation of the intergovernmental agreement on mutual protection of classified information that was signed in Moscow (Russia) on 2 December 2000 and ratified by the parliament on 15 November 2001; the agreement on cooperation in the area of military intelligence that was signed in Kyiv on 26 August 1997 and ratified by the parliament on 7 February 2002.

In addition, Poroshenko approved the denunciation of the intergovernmental agreement on military cooperation, which was signed in Sochi (Russia) on 25 November 1995 and ratified by the parliament on 10 January 2002.

Implementation of the provisions of the draft laws is expected to eliminate the direct threat to the national security and territorial integrity of Ukraine that is posed by the actual implementation of the terms of these agreements.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the parliament denounced five military agreements with Russia on 21 May.

The draft laws Nos. 0015-0019 were approved by 265, 261, 264, 268, and 272 votes; only 226 votes were required for their approval.
