European Commission Vice President Günther Oettinger has announced that the Naftogaz of Ukraine national oil and gas company has agreed to transfer USD 2 billion to the Gazprom gas company (Russia) before the end of October 2014 and an additional USD 1.1 billion by the end of the year
Oettinger made the announcement at a press conference following trilateral gas talks.
"Gazprom will supply 5 billion cubic meters of gas to Ukraine in the coming months on condition of payment of USD 2 billion in debt and prepayment at the price of USD 385 per 1,000 cubic meters," said Oettinger.
According to him, the parties will approve the agreement during September 29-30, following which another meeting will be held in Berlin by October 5 to sign a binding protocol.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Russia has announced that the European Commission has approved the setting of a gas price for Naftogaz of Ukraine for six months based on the contract that was signed in 2009 and a discount of USD 100.
