Russian army trying to reach borders of Donetsk and Luhansk Regions at any cost - AFU Commander-in-Chief

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said that the situation at the front remains difficult, the enemy is trying to reach the borders of the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions, while suffering heavy losses among personnel.

Syrskyi told about this in an interview with Ukrinform.

"The enemy continues offensive actions on a wide front, tries at any cost to reach the borders of the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions, to squeeze us on the left bank of the Dnieper in the Zaporizhzhia Region," noted the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Syrskyi also emphasized that the number of positions returned by the Defense Forces of Ukraine exceeds the number of lost, and the situation remains under control.

"The number of positions we regained exceeds the number of lost. The enemy did not manage to advance significantly in strategic directions, its territorial gains, if any, are of tactical importance. We control this situation. It is worth admitting that the current situation in certain directions remains tense. Russian occupiers continue to increase their efforts and have a numerical advantage in terms of personnel. They traditionally do not pay attention to losses and continue to use the tactics of mass assaults. In certain directions, units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine repulse several dozen attacks," Oleksandr Syrskyi said.

As previously reported, the day before the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, held a telephone conversation with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States, General Charles Brown. According to him, during the conversation, the parties discussed the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the coming months, the issue of the necessary US assistance to Ukraine, in particular, regarding the strengthening of protection against russian missile and bomb attacks, the topic of building fortifications, and also analyzed some strategic issues for the perspective of 2024.
