80 combat clashes between AFU and occupiers take place at front – General Staff
On January 20, there were 80 combat clashes between the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and the russian invaders.
This follows from a statement by the General Staff of the AFU from its morning summary.
In total, the enemy carried out three missile (S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles on the civilian infrastructure of Novohradivka, Donetsk Region) and four airstrikes, carried out 58 attacks using MLRSes on the positions of our troops and populated areas. As a result of russian terrorist attacks, there are dead and wounded among the civilian population. More than 40 residential buildings and other civil infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.
At night, the russian occupiers launched another air strike, using two Shahed-136/131 type attack UAVs. The forces and means of air defense of Ukraine destroyed one enemy drone.
Chernatske and Seredyna-Buda of Sumy Region were hit by airstrikes.
More than 140 settlements in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolayiv Regions came under artillery fire.
In the area of responsibility of the North Operational and Strategic Troops Group on the Volyn and Polisskyi Axes, the operational situation remains without significant changes.
On the Siverskyi and Slobozhanskyi Axes, the enemy maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts active diversionary activities in order to prevent the transfer of our troops to threatening directions, and increases the density of mine-explosive barriers along the state border in the Belgorod Oblast.
In the area of responsibility of the Khortytsia Operational and Strategic Troops Group in the Kupiyansk Axis, our defenders repelled 21 enemy attacks near Synkivka, Petropavlivka, the Kharkiv Region and Stelmakhivka, and Luhansk Region.
On the Lyman Axis, our defenders repelled six attacks by the occupiers near Terni, Yampolivka, Donetsk region, and another seven attacks in the areas of the Serebrianske Forestry and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk Region.
On the Bakhmut Axis, the Defense Forces repelled eight enemy attacks near Bohdanivka, Klishchiyivka, and Andriyivka in the Donetsk Region.
In the area of responsibility of the Tavria Operational and Strategic Troops Group on the Avdiyivka Axis, Ukrainian defenders continue to restrain the enemy, who does not stop trying to surround Avdiyivka. Our soldiers firmly hold the defense, inflicting significant losses on the invaders. Thus, during the past 24 hours, the Defense Forces repelled 11 enemy attacks in the area of Avdiyivka and another 12 attacks south of Sieverne, Vodiane, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske in the Donetsk Region.
On the Mariyinka Axis, Ukrainian soldiers continue to hold back the invaders near Heorhiyivka, Mariyinka, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk Region, where six attacks were repelled.
The enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions on the Shakhtarsk Axis.
On the Zaporizhzhia Axis, our defenders repulsed an enemy attack west of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia Region.
In the area of responsibility of the Odesa Operational and Strategic Troops Group in the Kherson direction, the Defense Forces will continue measures to expand the bridgehead. Despite significant losses, the enemy does not stop trying to knock our units out of their positions. During the past day, the enemy carried out six unsuccessful assaults on the positions of our troops.
At the same time, Ukrainian soldiers actively inflict losses in manpower and equipment on the occupying troops, exhausting the enemy along the entire front line.
During the day, the aviation of the Defense Forces struck six areas of concentration of personnel, weapons, and military equipment, one anti-aircraft missile complex, one ammunition warehouse, and one enemy communication hub.
Units of the missile forces struck three areas of concentration of personnel, weapons, and military equipment, one control point, and one radio-electronic warfare station of the enemy.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the report of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) stated that on January 20, the russian invaders managed to advance along the Kupiyansk-Svatove-Kreminna line and capture the village of Krokhmalne in the Kharkiv Region.
